I love really way out science fiction. Chappie, is a reject robot from the near future that malfunctions and is supposed to be turned into scrap metal. Instead, Dev Patel plays a scientist who is called ” his maker” according to Chappie and takes him to his home to try and put him together. He then builds Chappie into a robot that can think and learn like a human.
Chappie is taken hostage by drug lords in South Africa and they hold the scientist up to steal him to try and take over the Drug World. The film is very violent and campy but the relationship Chappie makes with his odd, drug lord Mommy is really funny and strange and touching in a edgy way.
The movie has a fantastic cast and it is a fast moving science fiction thrill ride. It is very violent and not for everyone. If you like special effects, love robots and technical tricks the film will be a good way to spend a snowy evening.
