Review: COME FROM AWAY. 1COME FROM AWAY

Book, Music & Lyrics by Irene Sankoff & David Hein
Directed By Christopher Ashley
Choreographed by Kelly Devine
On Broadway at the Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street)
In a heartbeat, 38 planes and 6,579 passengers were forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, doubling the population of one small town on the edge of the world.

On September 11, 2001, the world stopped.  On September 12, their stories moved us all.

Come From Away stars Petrina Bromley, Geno Carr, Jenn Colella, Joel Hatch, Rodney Hicks, Kendra Kassebaum, Chad Kimball, Lee MacDougall, Caesar Samayoa, Q. Smith, Astrid Van Wieren and Sharon Wheatley. Rodney Hicks is hysterical playing a Pilot that Jenn Colella finds attractive! That scene was hilarious. So happy to see Jenn Colella in a great show where she can show her singing and acting chops.

This show has gorgeous music and lyrics. It is the CD I can’t wait to own. As a New Yorker who lived through September 11th I was not sure it was a show I would want to see. I was wrong. This show is entertaining, uplifting and sweet. It was the perfect afternoon out and show you can’t help but love. I was tapping my feet to the fantastic Celtic rock music, and I had the best time. It is a must see, and I hope to do an interview with Irene Sankoff and David Hein as their beautiful show moved me. Get your tickets you will thank me if you do! This show is very moving, and you might need tissues!

Funny side notes: There was a character in the play named Bonnie Harris. The friend I took to the show has the same name.

Corine Cohen for Broadway Showbiz.
