I am all googly- eyed from the smart, charming, sweet and very funny show which opened this past Sunday at the Longacre theatre. First off, this cast is nothing short of perfection.
. James Earl Jones plays Grandpa a man who decided one day that his job in the Corporate rat race did not make him happy and he quit and never went back. Grandpa is the fearless leader of the family and one who essentially saves the day.
. Annaleigh Ashford was great in Kinky Boots but in this show she is over the top and in my opinion a front runner for a Drama Desk and Tony Award for her laugh out loud comedic timing as a terrible dancer and chocolate maker. She literally had me gasping for air with her ballet moves.
Kristine Nielson never dissapoints and shines as Penelope Sycamore the Mother of the family with such funny timing she had me laughing out loud.
Julie Halston who proves there is no such thing as small parts. Julie is a scene stealer and had a very funny number with only a few lines.
The show is a winner. It is a feel good play that will entertain you and put a smile on your face for hours after seeing it. It is on the level of perfection that is nothing short of a miracle. Run don’t walk to get tickets!
