Curtain up. Light the Lights. Roundabout has,a shiny new production that was brought to Studio 54 from a successful run in London. Sharon D Clark gave an award worthy performance in London which is how they brought it to Broadway.

When seeing Sharon portray Caroline it reminded me of Rose’s Turn in “GYPSY” so I will name this review “CAROLINE’S TURN.” Sharon gives an assertive performance of an unhappy woman who wants a better life for herself and her family.

The show is about the relationship  of a white, Jewish Middle Class family and Caroline a housekeeper in the South. The story follows Noah who loses his Mother to Cancer and wants a Mother figure in his life. The family hire Caroline to help with the cooking and cleaning. Caroline is paid $30.00 a week and takes, care of three children on a tiny salary. Noah’s Father re marries and the step-Mother wants to teach Noah not to leave his money in his pockets and tells Caroline if he leaves money in his pockets she may keep, whatever he leaves in his pockets.

Caroline is lonely and has conversations with the washer, dryer and radio.

She is having a hard time supporting a family as a single, Mother on only $30 a week so she gives the change to her children.

I adored the entire cast but was especially moved by Sharon’s performance. I was, sobbing from her heart wrenching Caroline’s Turn.
