I was very fortunate to see Brian Stokes Mitchell’s debut concert with Ted Sperling and the Philharmonic band. Seeing Brian Stokes one of my favorite Broadway singers singing The Grinch melted my heart and made me open up my mind to the Christmas season. The space is glorious and the sound of the music made me so happy I wanted to do a Happy Christmas dance right there.
Brian Stokes Mitchell does a fabulous job with banter and has such a charming personality you can’t help but smile and be cheery. His enthusiasm was hysterical. Stokes has performed in many Broadway shows I saw him in The Man of La Mancha, Ragtime, Kiss Me Kate and numerous benefits and concerts. He is a legend in the Theater community and seeing how excited he was to be singing there made me tear. His personality came across as if this was his very first time performing but his vocal chops and hilarious acting proved his status as a legend.
Stokes should do more concerts at the Philharmonic as this concert was magical and truly special. Hope they will do it every year and make that a new Christmas tradition. It was a spectacular event and one I was very grateful for attending.
