I went to the opening night concert. Jonathan Tunick conducted a 53 piece orchestra and it was a glorious night at David Geffen Hall. It starred Marsha Mason who played Madame Armfeldt, I remember her in The Goodbye Girl. Ruthie Ann Miles who was in The King And I at LCT theater played Countess Charlotte and Shuler Hensley who I saw as Judd and Frankenstein on Broadway opposite Megan Mullally were incredible.
If you love Sondheim as most do this concert is a must see and hear. I love the music in this show and it was a night to cherish forever.
If you want to hear Audra McDonald sing “The Glamorous Life” check out her performance at Sondheim’s 80th Birthday concert you will thank me later.
