Dixon Place (Ellie Covan, Founding & Artistic Director) is proud to present the new commission Blossom, created and directed by Spencer Lott, an award-winning puppeteer and Jim Henson Resident Artist. Lott has also designed the puppets for the production. Blossom will play six performances only: September 9th, September 10th, September 16th, September 17th, September 23rd and September 24th at 7:30pm at Dixon Place (161A Chrystie Street). Tickets are $19 in advance, $22 at the door, $15 students / seniors / ID NYC and can be purchased by visiting www.dixonplace.org or by calling (866)-811-4111. The show will run approximately 70 minutes.
In Blossom, five puppeteers visualize the beautiful unraveling of an elderly painter’s mind. The show creates a rich visual work in which puppetry, projections, crisp lighting and cinematic sound design converge to blur the lines between reality and memory.
The Jim Henson Foundation awarded a 2015 Seed Grant to this production.
The puppeteers include: Jamie Agnello, Chelsea Fryer, Sam Jay Gold,Rowan Magee and Robert M. Stevenson.
Sound direction for Blossom is by Chris Gabriel. Lighting design is by Alex Jainchill.
Spencer Lott is a puppeteer, actor, writer and director. Recently, he performed in Trusty Sidekick Theater Company’s Up and Away at Lincoln Center, for which he also was the puppet director and designer. Additional performances with Trusty Sidekick include The 7½ Mysteries of Toulouse McClane and The Haunting of Ichabod Crane at the Park Avenue Armory. As a puppeteer he has performed and as one of the assistant puppeteers on “Sesame Street” as well as “America’s Got Talent,” and “Good Morning America.” Spencer also co-wrote and directed the short puppet film, Melvin the Birder (2014 Audience Award for Best Oregon Short, 2014 PDN Photo Annual Award), for Heather Henson’s Handmade Puppet Dreams which screened at BAM in the 2014 Puppets on Film Festival. He has been a works in progress artist at the Children’s Museum of the Arts, a guest artist for Theater Development Fund’s Stage Door program, and is a member of the teaching artist ensemble at BAM and the New Victory Theater.
This Dixon Place commission is made possible with public funds from NY State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo & the NY State Legislature, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and private funds from The Jim Henson Foundation, The Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation, The Peg Santvoord Foundation & The Jerome Foundation.
The Dixon Place Lounge is open before and after the show. Proceeds from the bar directly support Dixon Place’s artists and mission.

Dixon Place received two Obie Awards, and an Edwin Booth Award for Excellence in Theater. Dixon Place has organically developed and expanded into a leading professional, state-of-the-art facility for artistic expression.
