Carole J. Bufford was born to be a flapper. She has the look the moves and the pizzazz of a Roaring Twenties ha cha cha baby. Carole’s new show Speak Easy at the Metropolitan Room is like going to a wild party at one of Texas Guinan’s night clubs of the 1920’s. The perfect orchestra backs her for the party, Vince Giordano and his Grammy winning Nighthawks. The show consists of a wonderful selection of songs from the Prohibition Era 1920-1933.
The show opens with a Chicken Daddy, but it is Cole Porter’s Let’s Misbehave that really tells the story of the show and the era. The numbers include a sing-along version of Side by Side and a very moving Love For Sale. Carole voice works perfectly on Are You Lonesome Tonight but she is also able to channel Sophie Tucker with her very lively Some Of These Days. Her closing number of My Mammy was the perfect way to end the show, as Mother’s Day weekend approached. Larry Lees’ arrangements work beautifully for Vince Giordano’s amazing Nighthawks.
Carole J. Bufford and Vince Giordano will make two more appearances at the Metropolitan Room at 34 West 22ndStreet.
