SWEET CHARITY

SWEET CHARITYThere is a new revival of “SWEET CHARITY” at the Pershing Square Signature Center which is a must see for both Sutton Foster fans and dance fans. The production is playing in a tiny yet intimate space. If you know me, you know dance is paramount to me, and the new choreography by Joshua Bergasse lives up to its expectations.

Sutton Foster who wowed me in ” Thoroughly Modern Millie.”  Plays Charity in a sweet and goofy way, you can’t help but fall for her hilarious funny expressions, and she seems to channel Mary Tyler Moore and Lucille Ball she has the best goofy expression on her face.

The rest of the cast work like a unified machine playing many roles and wearing many costumes. Sutton has proved she can play any role and this one seems to be a perfect fit.

The production hits near perfection my only problem with this production are the costumes and wigs. Sutton wears a strange blonde wig that does not look like real hair and looks a mess. It being an Off- Broadway show with limited resources this is an easy fix if the show moves to a larger theater or Broadway.  Hopefully, this production will move or extend. It is a great evening at the theater, but Sutton only has two costumes through the entire show a blonde curly wig and a straight blonde wig and a purple dress that looks like a smock and some sparkly shorts and a tank. All the other cast members have many costumes except Sutton, and it seemed odd. The show is a must-see regardless.  The show appears to be a sell out so try to win the $35.00 tickets on the Today Tix app; it is worth every penny, and you don’t have to be a big spender to see it. The show is being produced by The New Group and a Corine’s pick!
