Maude Maggart’s new show at Feinstein’s at Loew’s Regency Into the Garden takes you on an idyllic trip to the past. Ms. Maggart’s beautifully unique voice evokes another era.. The show is a mix of both well-known and obscure songs with interesting side stories of the past 100 years. As is always the case with M. Maggart’s cabaret performances, the show was diligently researched and carefully put together.
The opening number, Come Into the Garden, Maude, from a poem by A. L. Tennyson instantly removes us from Feinstein’s and takes us to another simpler, quieter time and place. A very poignant story about Oscar Hammerstein visiting a dying Jerome Kern leads into Maude’s very moving medley of I’ve Told Every Little Star and All the Things You Are. Maude Maggart’s voice works perfectly for both Cole Porter’s Experiment and Pete Seeger’s Turn,Turn,Turn. She chose the perfect closing number for her trip back in time, A Hundred Years From Today. Her encore was one of the more beautiful versions, complete with verse, of As Time Goes By, that I have heard.
Ms Maggart will be appearing at Feinstein’s at Loew’s Regency until June 16.
