NEW YORK CITY BALLET’S GEORGINA PAZCOGUIN STARS AS ‘VICTORIA’ IN BROADWAY MUSICAL “CATS”
(NEW YORK, NY)–Georgina Pazcoguin, premiere soloist of New York City Ballet, will star as ’Victoria the White Cat’ in the 2016 revival of renowned Broadway musical “CATS.” Previews begin July 14 with the official opening set for August 2.
This year’s run will bring an entirely new production based on the 2014 London Palladium revival with new dances by Broadway’s Andy Blankenbuehler, choreographer of Hamilton and In the Heights, based on the original choreography and associate direction by Gillian Lynne.
As ’Victoria,’ Georgina takes on one of “CATS” most demanding roles, requiring extensive ballet training and great flexibility. She will be featured in multiple solos, as well as leading group numbers with a starring role in a Pas de Deux.
Pazcoguin states, “I used to come home from grade school and watch CATS prior to my own ballet lessons. I never in a million years thought CATS would propel me into this hugely humbling and essential period of growth as an artist. I’m terrified and ecstatic at the same time to challenge myself beyond my ballet training!”
Georgina Pazcoguin began her career as an apprentice in 2001. After ten years in the corps de ballet, she was promoted to New York City Ballet’s first Asian American soloist in 2013. Two years later, Pazcoguin made her debut on Broadway’s “On The Town” as ‘Ivy.’ She has received critical acclaim from the likes of Pointe Magazine and DanceSpirit. The ballerina also graced the cover of Dance Magazine. Timeout New York declares, “Georgina Pazcoguin has soul.”
