REVIVAL OF A.R. GURNEY’S SYLVIA
Producers of the Broadway revival of SYLVIA, the modern romantic comedy about a midlife crisis, empty nesters, commitment, therapists, and a dog who is life-changing, are thrilled to announced New Jersey native Alfie, a one year old Maltipoo, will serve as the model of the dog played by Tony Award-winner Annaleigh Ashford (You Can’t Take It With You). Alfie will have his picture built into the set, and the photo will be revealed at the end of every performance during a scene where Sylvia’s owner looks at a photo of her.

Auditions for “the face” of SYLVIA were held on Monday, August 3, 2015, at the Daryl Roth Theatre (101 East 15th Street). The panel of judges included Tony Award-winner Julie White, two-time Pulitzer Prize nominee A. R. Gurney, and producer Daryl Roth. The judges narrowed down the competition to eight dogs including Carmine the Pomeranian Shih Tzu, Maya the Maltese, Dustin the terrier mix, Hugh Jackman the Cocker Poodle, Scout the Labradoodle, Teddy the mini Goldendoodle, AJ the Schnauzer, and the winner Alfie the Maltipoo.

Gurney (The Dining Room, Love Letters), Sylvia stars two-time Tony Award-winner Matthew Broderick (Brighton Beach Memoirs, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying), Tony Award-winner Julie White (The Little Dog Laughed), Drama Desk Award-winner Robert Sella (Stuff Happens), and fresh from her Tony-winning performance in You Can’t Take It with You, Annaleigh Ashford as Broadway’s friskiest new heroine.
